GentleMax Pro and Chemical Peels for Sunspots: How They Work
Both GentleMax Pro laser treatment and chemical peels are effective options for treating sunspots, but they approach the problem in different ways.

GentleMax Pro:
- Mechanism: This laser uses an Alexandrite laser to target the melanin pigment within sunspots. The light energy is absorbed by the melanin, causing it to break down. The body’s natural processes then remove the fragmented pigment, leading to a lightening of the sunspot.
- Advantages:
- Precise targeting of sunspots with minimal impact on surrounding skin
- Effective on a lighter skin types (Fitzpatrick I-III)
- Typically requires fewer sessions than chemical peels for noticeable results
- Can also improve overall skin tone and texture
- Disadvantages:
- May cause temporary redness, swelling, or blistering
- Can be more expensive than chemical peels
Chemical Peels:
- Mechanism: Chemical peels use a solution of acids to exfoliate the outer layers of skin. This removes the damaged skin cells containing the excess melanin pigment, revealing fresher, more evenly toned skin underneath.
- Advantages:
- Can improve the appearance of a range of skin imperfections, including sunspots, fine lines, and wrinkles
- Generally less expensive than laser treatments
- Different strengths available for varying levels of sun damage
- Disadvantages:
- May cause temporary redness, peeling, and sensitivity
- Requires multiple sessions for optimal results

Choosing the Right Treatment:
The best treatment for sunspots will depend on individual factors such as the severity of the sun damage, skin type, budget, and desired downtime.
Remember: Sun protection is crucial after both GentleMax Pro and chemical peel treatments to prevent new sunspots from forming. Elta MD is one of the sunscreens I recommend to patients their UV Clear sunscreen is the most popular, but if you’re looking for a mineral only sunscreen I recommend UV AOX Elements Tinted Mineral Face Sunscreen
